“Till I Grow Up”

By Sophia Bouhaddou

I made the promise to myself,

This timing was the one that’s dealt.

I made the choice easy on you,

For I knew I deserved better than to be the cake and eat it too.

You were a new shinny toy that I got to play with for a couple days,

Then mommy took it away, up high “till you grow up” she says.

It teases me on the mantle as I pass by,

Cause I got to have it, it was mine.

We traveled to others worlds, shinny toy and me,

It showed me likelihood possibilities.

To have what you wanted then to not,

Is harder than having nothing in between you are caught.

The dreaded place is where I sit,

In between knowing and showing a place familiar but I still don’t get.

I want to throw it in the fire below the mantle so high

Grabbing and stabbing as I walk by.

Sometimes I take a moment just to look,

I touch it and smile and am almost took.

Dream again of having not dreaming not lying not pretending.

Peace in bliss, an ignorant prance.

But it shows me what I want and as It should on the mantle it sits,

“till I grow up” or the timing fits.

Ill promise to myself,

Ill let go and forget.
